Makkah (Mecca), officially Makkah al-Mukarramah , is the holiest city in Islam and the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad . Located in the Hejazi region of western Saudi Arabia, it serves as the spiritual epicenter for nearly two billion Muslims, who direct their daily prayers toward the Kaaba at the heart of the city. Religious & Historical Significance The Kaaba: Located inside the Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque), this cube-shaped structure is considered the House of God and is the focal point of Islamic worship. Pilgrimage: Makkah hosts millions of Muslims annually. The mandatory Hajj pilgrimage is undertaken once in a lifetime by all able-bodied Muslims, while the Umrah is a lesser pilgrimage that can be performed year-round. Historical Landmarks: The city is home to several pivotal Islamic sites, including the Cave of Hira on Jabal al-Nour (Mountain of Light) where the Prophet Muhammad received his first revelation, and the Well of Zamzam. Restricted Access: To preserve its sacred status, Makkah is strictly off-limits to non-Muslims.

Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah ("The Radiant City") is the second-holiest city in Islam, located in the Hejaz region of western Saudi Arabia . Centered around the iconic Prophet's Mosque ( Masjid an-Nabawi ), it serves as a peaceful sanctuary and a destination of deep spiritual significance for millions of Muslims worldwide Religious & Historical Significance Madinah serves as the cradle of the Islamic civilization; it is the place that sheltered the Prophet (ﷺ) and became the launching pad for the global spread of Islam. The Home of the Hijrah: Originally known as Yathrib , the city’s history changed forever in 622 CE when the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his companions migrated here from Makkah. The local citizens, known as the Ansar (the Helpers), welcomed them with unprecedented brotherhood and love. The Prophet’s Sanctuary: The Prophet (ﷺ) loved Madinah deeply and prayed for its blessings, declaring it a sacred sanctuary ( Haram ) just as Makkah was made a sanctuary. It is the city where he lived, established the first Islamic state, and was ultimately laid to rest. The Center of Revelation: A vast portion of the Holy Qur'an (the Medinan Surahs) was revealed here, shaping the legislative, social, and ethical foundations of the Islamic faith.
